1. -이에요/예요 : to be (is , am , are)-이에요/예요  is attached to a noun with no space between tem. (-이에요 is used when the noun ends in a consonant and –예요 when the noun ends in a vowel.)

Consonant + -이에요 :     미국사람이에요.(I am American)    저는 학생이에요. (I am a student.)    이분이 수잔이에요. ( This is Susan.)

Vowel + -예요 :               이분이 의사예요. (This is a doctor.)   저는 앤디예요. (I am Andy.)   그 사람은  가수예요. (That is a singer.)

2. 이게/ 저게 : this(thing) / that (thing)이게  is used to indicate an object that is close to the speaker.저게  is used to indicate an object that is far from both the listener and the speaker.

Note:  “뭐예요? = What is….?”  The interrogative pronoun ‘뭐’ mean ‘what’ in English.

Example :

A: 이게 뭐예요? (What is this?)
B: (이게) 의자예요. ( This is a chair.)

A: 저게 뭐예요? ( What is that?)
B: (저게) 가방이에요. (That is a bag.)

 3. 있어요/ 없어요. 1) The verb ‘있어요’ has two different meaning : to have, to be/ exist in a location.
2) The verb ‘ 없어요’ meaning is opposite ‘있어요’

Example : 있어요
A : 열필 있어요? (Do you have a pencil?)
B : 네, 있어요. (Yes, I do.)

A : 한국 친구 있어요? (Do you have Korean friend?)
B : 네, 있어요. (Yes , I do.)

Example : 없어요
A : 지우개 있어요? (Do you have an eraser?)
B : 아니요 , 없어요. ( No , I don’t.)

A : 책 있어요? ( Do you have a book.?)
B : 아니요 , 없어요. ( No , I don’t.)

 4. –이 / 가 : Subject MarkerThe subject marker ‘-이/가’ is attached to a noun to indicate the subject of a verb or an adjective. ‘-이’ is used after words that end in a consonant while ‘-가’ is used after words that end with a vowel.

Consonant + -이 :            여동생이  있어요. (Sister  is here.)
                             옷이 아주 예뻐요. (Cloth is very beautiful.)
                             집이 있어요.(I have a house.)
                               

Vowel + -가 :                   사과가 비싸요. (Apple is expensive.)
                미나가 있어요.( Mina is here.)
                안디가 없어요. (Andy is not her.)

5.  (Place)에 있어요. : be at / in (place).‘-에’ is a location/place marker. Attach ‘-에’ to a noun (place) to indicate the location of something or somebody. The verb ‘있어요./없어요’ is always used in this case.

Example :                안디씨가 학교에 있어요.(Andy is at school.)
                                안디씨가 집에 없어요. (Andy is not at home.)
                                A : 미나씨가 어디에 있어요? ( Where is Mina?)
                                B : 병원에 있어요.(At the hospital.)
